Culinary Arts Class for Sentrep August 13, 2012 session

After the usual prayer, the presentation of new id project, and the I can do (penetrating the potato with a soft straw,   we proceeded to the biggest event of the evening:  preparing two dishes:   one sour and one sweet based on what the professor brought, red bell pepper and and strawberries.  (I got only 3 packs of strawberries at Rustan's.  Despite assurances last Friday, I did not get the best strawberries and complete number for the five groups)

And these were the amazing results (finished dishes/products)

 x                                 Rainbow salad

                                       Work in progress

The winning dish by Group 4

The beauty and the beef by AJ, Maica, Vian, and Abigail

 x                                   Marty and company's creation

Martha, Jane, Gadwin and Janes imaginative dish

Rainbow Salad by Patrick, Daniel, Arlene and Kathleen;  voted 2nd best

I asked the two Aces to judge the dishes in terms of taste and appearance.   Group 4 dish made by Jen, Ray Anne and Lei was voted the best.

For the dish creation, I give all the 5 groups 4.  They yet have to submit their menus (how they prepared it and the dish name)in order for them to get another 4.  (They can just transcribe the pitch and write how they made the dishes)

Going home last night was difficult.

Flood in front of Manila City hall

Going to class last night was difficult.  It took me more than 1 hour to travel from the Buendia flyover up to the H de la Costa campus and I am supposed to treat the class for coming in late?
Was it right that we had classes last night?

Going home was more difficult.  Up to Raymundo Ave, the travel was OK.  I was warned last night that  Valley Golf Ortigas Avenue extension was flooded..  I made the mistake of turning right at Legazpi st (the LG Collins plant).  The Greenwoods subdivision was being evacuated.  Floodwaters was about l foot in depth.  Before the Rain Forest, there was no more flood.

I heard, others were not so lucky.  Many were stranded especially those going to the all ready flooded areas.

This morning, I saw the devastation from the floods at the TV: Imelda Ave Cainta, Cavite, floodway in Pasig, Baseco compound, San Mateo.   Also in Cavite, Pampanga, Hermosa, Bataan

From Yahoo News - Floods submerge MM

La Mesa Dam had to release water contributing further to the flooding

You are right, that is the Ayala underpass for pedestrians

The throng of flood victims at evacuation centers

3rd Session for Sentrep at de la Costa campus

It was our 3rd session for Sentrep class at Salcedo (H de la Costa campus).  Though I knew that bringing a car would not be a nice idea, I brought one since it has been raining all day long.  True enough, although I was at Buendia flyover at 5:00 pm, I arrived at the classroom at 6:31 (I had to treat the class - I was in front of the building by  6:00.

We had three major activities:

l.  Debate - Entrepeneurs are born made, or are fated, product of destiny/swerti/lucky

The judges ruled out in favor of the side:  entrepreneurs are born.  Congratulations.  The debate hightlighted the three masteries of entrepreneurship:    mastery of self (are born) of opportunity (luck) and mastery of enterprise (are made)

2.  Continue with inspirational video presentation

3.  Presentation of illegal activity -  Only 4 groups were able to present.   There would be a continuation next week.

I did a short presentation on entrepreneurship at slideshare (it is at the www.profjorgeentrep-ateneo.blogspot.com featured post.

Except for the inspirational video, assignments, without attached files shall  in the future, be blogsent to the email:    profjorge.entrep.ateneo@blogger.com  ,

Nu 12 shall still be sent to :   jorge.saguinsin.sentrep@blogger.com

Those who have not sent their inspirational video, as a reminder shall send link, embed code to tto:

profjorge.entrep.selfdev@blogger.com

For next week, we have two creative activities.  Vian promised he prepared something on creativity.

Ateneo College 72 scholars with Fr. Stein

Did your professor give you a hard time? Fr. Jett Vilarin Ateneo President

In the AGSB graduation rites last Sunday for MBA 2012, Fr. Jett Villarin asked this in his
"pabaon speech to the graduate " (has nothing to do with the AFP practice for retiring gens.), as he asked the public to recognize the faculty of AGSB (there were only 24 present), he asked the question,

"Did they give you a hard time"

I say I was part of this group who gave the masteral student a hard time.  They are masteral students aren't they and must be tough to master tough lessons and assignment.  "You only begin living when you live outside your comfort zone)

Then Fr. Villarin said  "Dapat naman"  (It is right and just)

I remember a student, (a medalist)  remarking that for a 3 unit elective, Entrepreneurship had many assignments.  (It does not deserve to be that hard.  It had to be easy.  Electives had to be easy.  I clarified that from the Cluster Chair)

What do you think?  Must MBA be easy?

Must AGSB subjects be easy 4?  Must we have 20% of the graduates as medalists?

Being an MBA means being a guru, a master

Several years ago, I had a guest who had an MBA from UP.

He said that then, as it was, being an MBA was/is a badge of honor. It means being a guru.
It means being a master.  It means being a teacher. A guru.  One who knows all.  One who
Is short of being a Renaisance man.

He asked me whether the students I had (they were MBAH) had that traits all ready.  My jaws dropped, I could not answer him for sure.  Were they?  I sheepishly told him.  Maybe soon.

Can we say that of the newly minted MBAs who were conferred the degree last Sunday?  Are they imbued with critical thinking and ability to judge well the situation, the opportunities, and their business problems?

Have we successfully done our job as MBA professors?

Only time can tell?

Dr. Edward Go and  Prof Frank Roa.(they were AGSB classmates)

"Integrity"

"Hardwork"   12 hour daily grind (to fix paper works before important customer come in for coffee, and to avoid the 5 o clock traffic)

"Expertise"

"Service"

From the President:   Fr. Jett Villarin SJ

"If you want to have better clarity of your identity, you can come back to Ateneo"

"You are now all Ateneans, put that Ateneo logo in your heart.  Dibdiban na yan"

"Now is the time to be proud as A Filipino and Asian"

"Dignidad Humano"

"May God give you courage to change the world"

Congratulations to the 2012 MBA graduates!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 2012 GRADUATES  most especially those whom I did not find in the crowd nor congratulate personally.  All my warmest regards and prayers for your continued success

x                                    With Annabelle Capalla and Prof Jacky Chan

The only reason I attend the graduation is to honor the students.  I just missed 2 of the l0 graduation so far.  Of the 409 graduates, 67 or 16.38% had been entrep students.

I was blessed with medalist students

There were 40 gold medalists, and l2 silver medalists (52 in  all)

With Arinalen, gold medalist and stunning Jewel, both MM

I was blessed to  have 4/20 MBA students in entrep who  are  gold medalists:    Myra D. Balde, Arianlen T. Brania, Charles Erwin Quisumbing, and Joanna Camille I Sahilan.

and 5/12 silver medalists:  Engr. Redentor Garcia, Ivan Jeremy  Lee, Ma Theresa Sibug, Victoria Tan, and Margarita Tarrayo (the fmr. member of the Phil. shooting team)   That is 9/52 or 17%.

Did they give me bright students?  Was it just swerti?

Congratulations and more power to all of you in your enterprises...
