Can you describe strategic thinking? Or Strategy (from Linked In discussion)

From Linked in Groups

How would I answer the question:

It means the ability to think through on how to use the available (little or none) resources, and with a set of activities/choice of activities to meet a desired goal nothing more/nothing less.

This involves though:

1.  Having your nose close to reality and changing environment;

2.  Being aware of competitive pressure/forces

3. Thinking clearly

4.  Being relevant always to the goal

Find out if I come close to the Linked In thoughts.

Special Report by Carlo - " The World is Flat"

Why is the world flat?  What are the flatteners?

How do entrepreneurs profit/get wealthier in  a flat world?   It is more complicated?

Is ASEAN integration part of the flat world?  Why are so many anxious about this ASEAN integration?   We are part of the flat world since l989.  Since then we are living in an integrated world, and ASEAN is just one of them.

Is copy pasting of pictures/graphs/tables plagiarism

Rizal, Philippines  |  February 23, 2014

I am rather disturbed by a statement of a colleague at this institution who said that publishing graphs, tables, pictures of other people is not allowed under the rules of plagiarism.

So I searched this at net.  I got some answers from Yahoo answers.

Yahoo answers on copy pasting at Slideshare presentation

MBA Regis Clark Entrep Class last February 21, 2014

Rizal, Philippines   |  Februaary 23, 2014

Prof Jorge awards a gift t the winning debaters/group - entrepreneurs are made

I was so glad to have traveled/commuted to be with a group of very enthusiastic and very bright students from AGSB Clark last Friday.

We continued discussion on who they are and I annotated their discussion of life history with the connection of their life with entrepreneurship. A new class member came:  Christine Tubig whom I learned is an executive officer of a family owned real estate business in Floridablanca.  Their PTM are OFW and their packages are in the P1.2 to 2 million price range.   I hope the OFW boom continues.

Our main activity was the group creative activity - ie presentation of crimes.  Committing  crime calls for high level of creative thinking, problem solving, anticipation of problems, exit strategy (in case you get caught) or even how to distribute, fence, launder the loot.  Legitimate business can  not afford not to benchmark copy the criminals hatch a crime.  And also, people, I am amazed, really get out of the box when they plan a crime, and could be dangerous.  The crimes presented were:   Philhealth scam (on eye operation)  black mail, and betting on sports (basketball)  The betting on basketball exposed the dark side of sports which is the more lucrative part:   betting.   Football, and other sports have joined the dark side.

Thus the joke on Disney left.. (If you did not get it, you must have a slow IQ or that the joke is reserved for geniuses)

What is plagiarism? Did a group of students commit plagiarism?

Rizal Philippines  | February 23, 2014

#plagiarism, #profjorgeentrep, #originality, #attribution, #credits, #wikepedia

From Writing Center of University of North Carolina hand out

I learned of a very difficult predicament students in one in a distant location. Their integrity as individuals:  students, businessman are under fire on account of an alleged  serious academic malfeasance.  It is a very serious allegation/offense, and may mean end of their academic career as students They were (at least 4 of them) were alleged to have committed plagiarism) and the issue has reached the higher ups of the school.  The professsor has informed the dean of the alleged mischief.

Just what is plagiarism?

According the UNC hand out, "it is “the deliberate or reckless representation of another’s words, thoughts, or ideas as one’s own without attribution in connection with submission of academic work, whether graded or otherwise.”  Thus attribution is an important action on the part of the student, or a part of the paper that removes plagiarism from a quoted text, sentence or paragraph.  I saw in the students' paper that proper attribution:  footnotes, bibliography were made.

Our Spentrep Class yesterday February 17, 2014

Rizal Philippines  |  February 18, 2014

We had 7 attendance yesterday at the Spentrep class:  Francis was sick and Pam quit her two subjects in MBA all together because of conflict with her work. She was assigned a challenging project and she asked me to sign her withdrawal form.

There were only 3 things we did last night:  the IV of Christel, the Special reports of  Jen (whom I learned is the daughter of retired General Ursua of Philippine Army) who reported on "Go Negosyo"and of Grace Agustin who reported on the "Business and the Bible"  Jen Ursua even had a prop:   the professor was wearing a Go Negosyo shirt (which is a rare shirt and which was given only to a Go Negosyo lecturer) and letter from the CEO of Go Negosyo Mr. Joe Concepcion III.   (I wish we could post Joey's letter here. That I wore that T shirt in time for her report, she said was serendipity. (She is 53 yo?)

Business used to run in the family. When I was younger, my mom managed a small drugstore/bakery. I wasn't really interested in business or anything outside my industry; which is the art industry. I was, and I guess, still am an artist at heart. But then, I don't want to be an employer for the rest of my life. The only thing that's holding me back from actually taking the risk of starting my own business is that I don't have that much experience when it comes to managing. I took the exact same Entrepreneur test that Trizza took.  Taking the test made me think really hard about how I am career-wise or how my mind works.
Based on the results, my strongest point is 'achievement striving.' This means that getting a high score on this area reflects how motivated a person is to succeed. I believe that deep inside, I know what to do to succeed in life, I just haven't found the motivation to actually get out of this limbo that I am in right now, which is known as the "quarter life crisis" stage. I am eager to do something; I just haven't figured it out yet. But once I do, I'll go on full force and take the risk, and get on the train. I think that this factor is the driver of all other factors included in becoming a great entrepreneur.

Getting a high score in 'passion' means a person's decision is heavily influenced by their emotions. Meaning, the person shows higher enthusiasm for the work that they're doing than many people. I believe that I'm an enthusiastic person. Most of the time, I get enthusiastic at work. And most of the time as well, I notice that even my co-workers go along with my enthusiasm. I think that this plays an important role in becoming an entrepreneur because you have to have that positive aura/way of thinking to make your team motivated enough to tackle the tasks that each day brings.

I was wondering why 'creativity' is not my strongest point, considering that I'm an artist. But then, being creative in 'art' is different from being creative in coming up with innovative ideas/products/etc. Art has no limitations. I can paint or draw whatever I want. But being creative when it comes to coming up with new ideas has its limitations. But then again, being creative doesn't mean that it's only limited to thinking of ideas and art. Being creative also means that when handling problems, you generate different ideas on solving them. You use abstract and lateral thinking than conventional and traditional thinking when making decisions. And as I mentioned last meeting, a person tends to be creative when under pressure or when certain circumstances arise.

Getting a fairly high score in 'taking control' means that a person is relatively confident when taking control of situations. It is also related to the psychological personality theory of "locus of control," meaning an individual believes they can control events that affect them. This is something I'm still honing. Honestly, I am not confident that I am capable of leading a team or taking control of a big situation because I still don't have enough experience. There have been chances of me getting promoted to team leader, but I didn't take them because I wasn't confident with the thought of going to school at the same time, working full time. But there have been instances when I took over our team lead's job and it felt really nice managing the team. I like the feeling of having the authority but yet not abusing it.

I got an average score in 'industriousness.' This means that it's a person's level of persistence, resistance to stress and self-discipline. I will paste what the website says about getting an average score in industriousness. "You may handle stressful or challenging situations about as well as most people. You may at times work well in high pressured environments, but not necessarily all the time. You may become distracted or procrastinate about as much as most people." This, I believe is true. There are times when I work best under pressure; to the point of giving up is not an option. There are times, well, recently I have been procrastinating. And this is because I still don't know what to do in my life. I have plans, but I don't know which one to prioritize.

I believe that the 5 given factors play unique roles in being a great entrepreneur. And taking the test made me realize that I am capable of being an entrepreneur; I just have to get out of this limbo, stop procrastinating, and start taking risks while I'm still young. I just want to share this quote I read somewhere "the moment you think of giving up, just think of the reason why you held on for so long." 3

Why am I using cooking for Creativity Exercises in Entrepreneurship

#cooking, #creativity, #entrepreneurship

From LInked on by Andrew Zolli

Well Filipino love to cook.  There are male students who actually love/know how to cook.

It is fun to eat what you have prepared.  At H de la Costa the canteen does not have much to sell and it is a welcome thing to have food prepared.

The iron chef shows and many best chef contest are everywhere and hence many students would be familiar on what to do.  This is essentially a learning to do thing

It is also very easy to be creative with food preparation.  it is ideal to have a 3 d printer or Fab Labs but the school can not afford.  Beside this subject is just an elective, but would have a great impact on the psyche of the MBA graduate.

The myth of solo product designer

No man is an island, even for the gunslinger entrepreneur:

The lone ranger, lone wolf hunter is now an urban legend.  Even wolfs hunt in packs and they are effective that way.  Teams leverage the creative process.  More heads are better than one

Bomb Threat the Loyola Campus

Rizal  Philippines |  February 14, 2014

EVACUATED. Students of the Ateneo de Manila University were asked to vacate the campus. Photo by Colene Arcaina

From Rappler

It is Happy Valentine's Day today.  and double 14.  What an auspicious day.

However, two days ago it was not well in Loyola campus.   And every one was scared.   The Loyola staff had to evacuate the entire campus, at all schools:   grade, high school, Loyola. The anonymous text messages (two in all could not be taken lightly)  The text messages read:  : “MAY MGA BOMBA NA SASABOG SA ATENEO. PANIGURADONG MADAMING ESTUDYANTE AT EMPLEYADO ANG MAMATAY. 30 MINUTO MULA NGAYON.” (Bombs will explode in Ateneo. Surely many students and employees will die. 30 minutes from now).

I was told at the AGSB faculty lounge yesterday afternoon,  by Ms. Isabelle, a journalism adjunct professor whom I met yesterday.

The QC police and NBI  cleared the area and the University was reopened in the afternoon at 4mp, and the threat was declared a hoax by QC police

Only 4 Entrep Professors Remain at AGSB

Makati  Philippines  February 13, 2014

We had a cluster meeting with Prof Dr. George Fong whom I learned took over Ms. Winnie Constantino who has or will be resigning together with several others faculty.   I just learned that there are only 4 remaining Entrep professors for elective:   Prof Glen San Luis (mentor of yours truly and Dr. Tony)  Dr. Tony del Carmen, Dr. George Fong,  and yours truly.  This was our first meeting in several years.  We had a plenty under Col Sibal.

Factors for Business Entrepreneurs

What factors I do/ don't posses that make/ do not make me a Business entrepreneur?

The article written by smarta.com presents the different characteristics that make an entrepreneur. It listed 10 key factors that an entrepreneur manifests: determination, confidence, action-oriented, passion, ability to see the brighter future, people person, risk-taker, not afraid of failure, opportunity-spotter, and financial thinker. In another article written by smallbusiness.chron.com, it sites the six factors of an entrepreneur in business. It states that planning; perseverance, risk management, enthusiasm and belief, levelheaded approach, and relishing challenges are the key components in entrepreneurship. Now, which of these factors do I see in myself and which one do I lack?
