Factor paper 11-Dec-2012 by AC

I took two tests on whether I have what it takes to become an entrepreneur. One test said that I am and made some suggestions:
"You ARE an entrepreneur. With proper planning and consideration, you are driven and rewarded by innovation and problem solving. You, too, should document a personal vision. And, don't do it alone. Surround yourself with others—mentors, advisors, peers, associates, investors—who buy into your vision and will serve as a sounding board and support mechanism to help you ensure long-term success for the company you create."
On the other hand, the other test said that while I passed the general profile and motivations, I failed in the aptitude and attitude part. This test was based on the fact that most entrepreneurs have the same skills.
Factors that I possess to become a successful entrepreneur are I have an innovative mind. Since I wanted to become successful in business, I have been thinking of the business I ought to do. Unfortunately for me those ideas were recently a big hit, thought by another entrepreneurs.  Other factors that can help me in becoming an entrepreneur are my vision, driven, motivation, planning, administrative and organizational skills.
I like to plan everything that I do. Planning allows me to think of the pros and cons of a decision I am about to make. Moreover, planning keeps my feet on the ground, as sometimes I tend to overlook other possibilities or make a decision that is almost impossible to make. In addition, planning allows me to see where my decision is heading. Currently, I am still in the process of developing the menu I will put in the store. It is a bit challenging to decrease the number of the food we will make; and, another challenge is to choose what type of food I should include. A successful entrepreneur would be able to plan ahead of time and make sure there is a contingent plan in case things go wrong. To this, administrative and organizational skill will play a vital role once the business has started.
More than the skills, entrepreneurs should also have the vision, passion, dreams, inspiration and motivation. I got this one from a very successful businessman from Malaysia. He said that without vision a man is be blinded by the things that surrounds him; thus, it is important for someone to have vision and also a dream. Vision enables me to see my future. I can make my dreams come true because it will be my motivation and inspiration to move forward and set my targets high; and for this reason, I was able to see myself living my dream.
However, I know I still have a long way to go to become a successful entrepreneur. I know I lack the experience to put up a business. My preparation may not be enough and it could have significance once I start. Aside from the experience, I think that I need to hone my cooking skills so that when the business starts I can keep up with the demand from my customers. I need to ensure that I can properly advertise my business. Here's some of my areas of improvement:
-          Resistance to stress. I need a better coping mechanism to stress for more productivity.
-          Thinking fast. Because I am more of a planner than a spontaneous person, I need to cope fast to the changes in my environment
-          Creativity. I am not the most creative person but maybe in time I can hire someone creative than me.
-          Lack of finances. We all need the financial capability to start a business whether small or big.
In time, I know I can make improvements to myself and become a successful entrepreneur that I wanted. 3

Factors Paper (Jaypee Eugenio)

Hi Sir,
Below is my factors paper. :)

JOHN
PAUL G. EUGENIO
S-110056MBA
STANDARD ENTREPRENEURSHIP

·         Factors that I possess / do not possess
to be a successful Entrepreneur.

What I have confirmed in my
Leadership class about my personality is that I am an Achiever which I believe
is a good trait of an entrepreneur. I am always up for a challenge and is
willing to do everything to achieve my goals.Being
an achiever, who is also adaptable and success oriented, I find myself
sensitive and at some point reserved. Moreover, I further describe myself as
self-assured.
I am highly aware of other people
especially in situations or in groups and especially how my actions and
attitude affects those people around me and with my cheerful disposition; I
always want them to be happy. I don't like as much as possible any dull
moments. I want to find more personal connection with people I am interacting
with. I want to learn from them as much as I want to share with them my
knowledge. People around me oftentimes tell me that I am very easy to get along
with, open minded, and engaging.
As far as I remember, way back when I was
a kid, I always wanted to be on top of the class, I wanted to be recognized all
the time, I wanted to achieve things that not everyone can, I wanted the
attention of my family specially my parents and I will do everything just to be
noticed. Other than trying my best to excel in class, I always made it a point
to join extracurricular activities that will help me stand out from the rest
and it started my passion in dancing and acting which I believed is another
link to my being highly creative (a good factor of an entrepreneur as well). I
even dreamt of joining the cast of "Ang TV" way back in 1990s. However, my
parents did not allow me to audition which is why I only joined several acting
workshops to develop my talents which resulted in three major theatre shows in
school in 1998 which have also given me the best actor award. My being creative
was not just shown on stage but also in my school projects because I made it a
point that I will not just submit a simple work of art (if I may say J) but I have to put something different on
it. Something that will make it look good or even better than most of my
classmates and something that is distinctly Jaypee. This showed another
characteristic of me which is image conscious (another good factor of an
entrepreneur).
Most of my friends asked me if I have an
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) because I am so energetic that
I always tend to be everywhere doing different things in school or even at
home. Joining the volleyball varsity team and the corps of cadet officers are
my targets in high school. The image of a varsity player and at the same time a
cadet officer in CAT fascinates me so much because it will give me the
opportunity to give back the glory to my alma mater and also to achieve another
fete for myself (not to mention the power over your subordinates in CAT). This
also assured me of a position recognizable not just inside our school but also
outside as we joined several interschool tournaments and CAT competitions.
Though we were not lucky in sports, our awards in different CAT competitions
have covered it all. Winning a number of gold and silver medals assured me of
the Cadet Officer Award in 2002. To cap it all off and modesty aside, I have
provided them another image of a class valedictorian. The new image of an
honour student who did not only excel in academics but who also excelled in
arts, sports, and other extracurricular activities.
I always wanted to be different and unique
(good factor of an entrepreneur) in the eyes of other people which show that I am
self-assured. I don't hesitate in taking the challenge of reinventing myself,
meeting other people and gaining friends though at times I am reserved because
I am afraid of rejection. However, being self-aware makes me gain more friends
because I don't hide my feelings. As I often say, what you see is what you get.
Having a good image struck me most when I
was in college. Building my school career as a future JPIA officer taught me a
lot of things and a lot of image to show for that matter. I have to be a role
model to my fellow students especially to those in lower years. I have to set a
good example all the time which means I have to maintain my grades and
accomplish all the tasks assigned with my position. It's not easy to do especially
when you're still young but I learned to listen and be guided by my professors
who have more to share. Luckily, I must say I have made an image that is far
more than my being an Internal Vice President of JPIA – San Beda 2006, I had
been their "Kuya". Most of them called me "kuya" instead of Mr. VP, maybe
because I have shown them that I am approachable and just like them, a student,
which differs only with the amount of responsibility at hand. Accomplishing all
these things had given me the recognition as one of the Top Ten Students of San
Beda College 06', another one for the achiever in me.

Who I am today at work and in AGSB is the
accumulation of all my experiences for the past 25 years. I must say I'm an
achiever, adaptable, success oriented, attractive, charming (I will claim this
as well), ambitious, energetic, status-conscious and highly driven for
advancement with a hint of sensitivity, self-awareness, emotionally honest,
highly creative, moody, and self conscious. 3

Factors Paper
Factors I posses and do not posses to be a successful entrepreneur

I am Evan Brian T. Uy, 23 years old, male, 5'10", 157 lbs, dark, athletic figure and of Chinese descent.

I was not born with a silver spoon. My parents were not financially blessed when my elder sister and I were born. My father just started out his business with his brother and my mother used to work with an insurance company when we were young. We had everything we needed – 3 meals a day, a rented apartment for our shelter and a hand-me-down car from my uncle. In just a few years my father's business thrived and our standards of living also improved. My mother stopped working and became a full-time homemaker. Even if my father's business flourished, he did not spoil us all but even wanted us to have a taste of reality. Since my siblings and I were kids, our parents will encourage us to save money and use it wisely. They did not shower us with expensive gifts. As a kid, I cannot understand that. But now that I've grown up, I can understand the skill and discipline they have taught us since we were young. In addition to their guidance, they also enrolled us in many activities and sports, mostly during summer, which helped us develop our personalities and outlook in life. When I was 9 years old my parents forced me into competitive swimming. My performance was mediocre and uninspiring during my first five years of competitive swimming. During those years I did not have any fighting spirit and perseverance in me. It was only my parents who forced me to swim. On my sixth year of competing, something unexpected happen; I was being considered to represent the country for the SEA Games. I was 15 years old when that happened. Puberty hit me at the right time even though my spirit is not there. I considered myself lucky to have genes of an athlete (my father was a basketball player in the NCAA) but I realized and learned a lot of things from that as well.

From all the environmental and genetic factors that honed me throughout the years, I have reflected and been able to pin-point some characteristics I have and do not have to make me a good entrepreneur. Here are some factors that I consider as my strengths to be a good entrepreneur:

Optimism and Confidence
As a competitive athlete for almost 15 years now, I've learned how to control my feelings. The emotional ups and downs of hectic competitions and my overall career as an athlete contributed so much in the way I handle myself. I used to lose a lot. I had a big break when I was 15-18 years old. I became a national team member. I lost my peak when I was around 19-20 years old mainly because of my demanding school work. I lost to younger and newer swimmers. It devastated me. But my optimism and confidence was still there. I worked hard again and performed outstandingly last 2010 and won the MVP award in UAAP on my fifth and last playing year in the UAAP. It was a proof of how I was conditioned by my parents and environment. I've always thought the when I am down, there's nothing else to do but pull yourself up against all the challenges. I don't want to lose forever. Being an athlete established an unshakable optimism in me.

Hard work, Focus and Discipline
Balancing my studies since my grade school days to my undergraduate and graduate studies in the AdMU really honed my discipline and focus. It is never an easy task to study and train 3-5hrs a day regularly. Up to now that is still my routine. I had to stay away from peer pressure and other vices to be able to achieve my goals as an athlete and as a student.

Persistence
I learned how to be persistent when I wanted something so bad. I cannot just let something pass by if I want it so bad. I always make sure that I have exhausted all possible options and giving my blood and sweat before ending something.

Stamina
As a student-athlete in one of the finest schools in the country, I've developed stamina that's enough to face any challenge. I graduated on time from the AdMU while maintaining my position as the best performing swimmer in the team. Aside from the mental stress school bring I am also able to endure physical stress of my training.

Open and aware
I am an explorer. I go to places and make the most out of my stay there by wandering and observing carefully. I always think that I will always learn something from the things happening outside my comfort zone. Every time I go to a new place here in NCR or in other places in the Philippines and even abroad, I make to visit and observe key area and activities of that place. I am also aware of the current events to ensure that my knowledge is up to date.

Challenge and Risk-taker
I am adventurous in life. I do not live to be on the safe side. I believe and feel that fulfillment can be found in overcoming challenges.

Frugality
Being born and raised in a Chinese family really made me realize the value of money. I am never careless when it comes to money but not to the point where I am being very unreasonable. I always weigh the pros and cons when spending and I avoid spending on things I do not need.

Interpersonal skills
I've made a lot of friends in school, sports and through other means. I believe that I am sociable. I also like dealing with people because. I have a good sense of humor and I think it really helps a lot in making friends and getting close to people. I can also be formal if the situation calls for it. I am very flexible.

So far I have discussed some factors that I think can help me become a good entrepreneur. It's about time to discuss some negative factors in me that needs improvement.

Unorganized
At times, I can really be unorganized. I rarely sort and file things in the most effective way possible. Sometimes I make an effort to organize things but I know it is not enough.

Too much confidence and energy
Sometimes I get too excited on something that I fail to plan it carefully. Early this year I started a small business. It was a product of pure optimism and confidence without proper planning. The demand for the products I introduced was not enough and I failed to do intensive market research to realize that. My business closed down after 6 excruciating months.

I believe that I have the necessary factors to be a successful entrepreneur. I just need to improve on my weaknesses to further improve my character as a aspiring entrepreneur. I just hope fate is with me on this. 3.5
