Advice from former CEO and founder of Starbucks

Every generation needs a revolution - an entrepreneurial revolution

Howard Schultz is no longer the head of of Starbucks, nor part of its senior management.   He has comments on the Starbucks apps -j from where 31% of Starbucks orders are generated.   He warns against it, the business model of Starbucks being based on the experience of drinking coffee

He warns also against Starbucks growing arrogance, conservatism.   That it can not do anything wrong except being successful

What ever you do, make it a point to visit your bank - even when you do not need anything from your bank

Every generation needs a revolution - an entrepreneurial revolution

I have come across this advice when I took up my MBA.  Visit your bank when ever you have time.  Even if you have dont need anything.

And further reenforced by reading on networking.   Network when everything is fine;  not when the well is dry.

So in visit to Calamba, I again visited the bank.  We did not discuss any business. Just how do you do.

Its their task to visit top accounts.  But we are in Angono.  They cant visit us there.   Although, one of their managers made it a point to make presentation in Angono, although he heads Calamba

Thank you sir

Bottom up or top down? Which is a better approach?

Every generation needs a revolution - an entrepreneurial revolution

Time and time again, we have heard empowerment, bottoms up approach is better.  Even at lowest level.  The presumption is that Theory Y works:   staff will develop themselves, will engage in self improvement.  But in reality that rarely works.  Even at supervisory and managerial level.

Every one wants to be secure, not take risk, not cross the line, and only do the routine.

It is sad and very embarrassing but the top guys should really make it a point to follow up - to flames underneath the executive chairs.

The Jack Welch boys said it right -  Follow up.   Top down
