In the presentation yesterday by Dr. Gregorio at Green Innovation conference at AGSB, the topic of cognitive dissonance came up. This is the disconnect between what you believe and say what you are going to do and what you actually do. (This in world of ethos borders on lack of integrity) but is actually is a dilemna.
For instance, believer in green technology will go for electric cars. But the range of an electrical car is only 40 miles and takes forever to recharge. So the believers will not actually buy an electric vehicle despite this belief (because of technology that is not user friendly)
While others would espouse education and learning (which is time consuming and expensive) Prof Ned Roberto said he would focus on changing the action and behavior which would eventually change the mind set. In marketing, this is called promotion and trial --> trial eventually leads into using repeat sales and brand loyalty. (Promotion means pro - motion --->action.
What do you prefer, changing mindsets or changing motion.
Thus some small desired behavior in the organization are rewarded rather than sending people to seminars. Effective leaders in execution say: "Reward the doers" or ""Reward the desired action (pleasure)
Or pain: catch the litterbugs and fine them....
Do you agree with Dr. Roberto?
Or do you believe education works better (the long term approach)
