Three masteries needed to be an entrepreneur

Every generation needs a revolution - an entrepreneurial revolution

In the GSB, we were in agreement that there are three masteries that an entrepreneur to be truly one must master:

     1.  Self
     2.  Opportunities
     3.  Enterprise

It could not be pure technology mastery, or learning a trade or yema making or durian farming.   It has to start from the self.  Self improvement:   education, emotional, physical, spiritual are all part of mastery of self.  It involves development of leadership skills oral and written communication

There has to be mastery of self.  Thus Ii believe that a graduation skill of an entrepreneurship  student is the ability to write a comprehensive business plan that contains executive summary, organization, objectives,  marketing plan,  financial plan, operating plan, compliance with govt regulations, and exit strategy.  When this was no longer allowed,  I all ready wandered off to other pursuits.

The entrepreneur must be able to spot opportunities around him.  What are the source of opportunities:   hobbies,  trends, changing customer wants and needs, and most commonly:  WHAT PISSES YOU OFF. ?
According to Jack Ma, it is what the customer complains about.   (In your company or others.  The former head of Marriott makes sure that all complaints reaches him.   (That is what Ii try to do.  I read the FB messenger which are usually used as channels for complaints)

Not everybody can be entrepreneurs.  Not everybody can be online sellers without buyers.  Thus being entrepreneur is reserved for a selected few.  Many will try but only a few will succeed.

What do you think?

Mastery of craft, technique or business is not entrepreneurship

Every generation needs a revolution - an entrepreneurial revolution

Many mistake mastering a craft or even taking MBA as road to success as an entrepreneur.
Michael Gerber made this clear that mastery of technique (being a technician) or being a business manager  do not make a business man/entrepreneur.  (Mastery of business and enterprise)

The first component is mastery of self.  It is about your courage, tenacity, determination, enthusiasm, leadership and discipline.  Without these.  you can not make it  Also about your goal.

If it is goal is merely to make money and to enjoy its perks;   cars, luxury, entertainment, pleasure, then you can not be an entrepreneur.

It is about believing in creating something good for humanity.  It is about fulfuling your role in the Lords prayer ie the to be vessel of the peoples daily break. Or spiritually to fulfill our mandate in Genesis:  1:28.  to gain dominion over the earth.

A big time Chinese businessman (now deceased) told me about that.  While essentially a Buddhist, we immersed himself in local religion and helped generously and a mover in the Chinese chamber

What are the purposes of the Special Reports?

The Special Reports are worth 10 points in our grading system.  The student makes the report in the class and I ask for comments, discussion.  Then they upload this at Slideshare for sharing with the class primarily.  The other students do not have to take notes and later on they will remember, in the Slideshare archive, what we did in class.  Lasting memories, eh.

1.  The SR is any of the following general classification:   self mastery, mastery of the environment/opportunity, and mastery of the enterprise.  This goes back to our debate on the first day.

2. The SR trains the student to be special (unique, differentiated, noticed), as with the inspirational video.  Every entrepreneur must have a compelling very noticeable, differentiated (not with diprensiya!) business to survive, flourish in the marketplace.

3.  At least the student must have remembered one thing in this entrep class - his special report, permanently archived at Slideshare.

4.  Posting at slideshare publicize the student.  Slideshare presentations are viral and places the students name and the topic at the top of Google Page Search.  Slideshare is owned by Linked In, a search engine for professionals.  It makes you visible to head hunters, recruiters, and other senior executives.  You will not be unemployed for a long time

So what are the following special reports all about?  self mastery, mastery of the opportunity, or the enterprise  (still about nature, nurture, and swerti)?

      1.  John Gokongwei?

      2.  Business and the Bible

      3.  Blue Ocean Strategy

      4.  Sun Tzu  (this is tricky)

      5. Confucianism
